BHP Billiton’s diamond production dips in Q3

In the quarter ending September 30 2011, BHP Billiton’s diamond production recorded a dip over previous quarter and also on y-o-y basis. Its production at the Ekati mine in Canada’s Northwest territories stood at 457,000 carats, dropping 35 percent y-o-y and by 21 percent as compared to quarter ending June 30 2011.

The company attributes this slackened production to the ‘ongoing decline in average ore grades and unseasonably high rainfall’.
