Arrests made in Hatton Garden heist case

Investigations into the Hatton Garden heist have led to the arrest of eight men, reports say. Another man, the ninth of the team was also arrested but released on bail, reports add. The robbery was one of Britain’s biggest jewellery heists, where diamonds, jewels and cash worth tens of millions of pounds were stolen from 56 safe deposit boxes. Jewellery worth around 200-million pounds was stolen, according to reports.

The police have arrested all men, reportedly British, and involved in the robbery, at a London police station. They are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to rob, reports say. The robbery took place last month. The police filed charges after detaining the nine suspects, after it raided 12 properties in the London and Kent areas. Also, officers recovered some bags containing high-value property at one of the addresses and are searching at the other locations, reports say.

The police conveyed appologies for not immediately responding to the alarm triggered at the safety deposit box business in central London at the time of the robbery. It was earlier reported that the call reporting it was not designated as sufficiently urgent to warrant an immediate response and that the gang was inside the building when police did arrive, as per reports.

Hatton Garden is known as London's jewellery quarter.
