There was a significant participation of leading diamond traders from Antwerp at the 2015 Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show. The AWDC hosted 109 leading diamond traders in the Antwerp Diamond Pavilion.

Considering the key role Hong Kong plays globally, for polished diamonds, being a market destination that is second in value only to the United States, the show proves important to Antwerp diamond companies. Representatives from businesses of all sizes had a tremendous variety of loose stones on display at an extremely favorable price/quality ratio.

Although the Chinese Government has lowered its growth expectations for 2015 to 7% and the Chinese New Year had just ended, the show appeared to be the ideal opportunity to maintain good relations and establish new contacts. Despite the less favorable economic outlook for the coming year, Hong Kong remains one of the premier marketplaces for diamantaires. With the Chinese market for diamonds expected to double in the next 10 years, the future looks very bright, and the Antwerp diamantaires want to have their networks in place when that happens.

Santosh Kedia from Kediam said, “If you can offer customers attractive prices and have the right contacts, the Hong Kong trade fair in March is still the perfect opportunity to do good business.” Mike Akiki from Antwerp Cut, specialized in fancy color diamonds, adds, “Potential buyers do not come here specifically to replenish their stocks, but to make the right contacts so that they immediately know who to talk to when they need a customized order. Hong Kong in March is therefore the ideal platform for maintaining existing contacts and for making new contacts.”

The year 2015, was the second year the traditional Hong Kong March fair featured a separate loose stones venue. In its first year, the show attracted over 32,000 professional buyers from around the world, marking its emergence as one of the most successful shows in the industry.
