Amrapali’s latest Zardozi Collection to dazzle the festive spirit

Leading Indian luxury jewellery brand Amrapali has launched a collection of exclusive range of jewellery an ode to the elaborate embroidery of Zardozi.

Zardozi is a Persian word that means sewing with gold string. This art attained its summit in the 17th century, under the patronage of Mughal Emperors and revived along with many traditional methods of embroidery in the middle of this century, after its decline with the Mughal patronage.

The original Zardozi thread was made from an alloy of silver and gold. The wire that came out of the furnace, although containing a lot of silver in it, glittered like gold. The wire was then twisted around silk threads to form the spring like Zardozi. Initially, the embroidery was done with pure silver wires and real gold leaves. However, today, craftsmen make use of a combination of copper wire, with a golden or silver polish, and a silk thread.

Zardozi embellishments have always been ‘en vogue’. During the last fifty years, the revival of Zardozi has seen it in the works of latest designer outlets, and interiors.

Solemnizing this embroidery, Amrapali’s new jewellery collection launches at the time of the festive season, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. The collection narrates the victory of light over darkness through the handcrafted jewellery.
