Alrosa’s delegation pays working visit to Mumbai, Surat

The Indian diamond industry, both in Mumbai and Surat interacted with delegates from Alrosa during a working visit by the mining company to India. Alrosa’s management was headed by the President Andrey Zharkov.

During the visit, the company representatives visited the Special Notified Zone (SNZ) that opened in 2015 at Mumbai’s Bharat Diamond Bourse. Alrosa had conducted a pilot tender at the SNZ to test the duty-free import-export system and noted high level of sales organization in December 2015.

The decision to set up a platform for facilitating trade and providing producers direct access to Indian market was made in 2014 following the bilateral summit headed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit was in conjunction with the beginning of this year’s edition of the International Jewelry Show Signature (IIJS) in Mumbai. Mr. Zharkov attended the inauguration ceremony of IIJS where he appreciated successful efforts of the Indian industry community in developing the country’s diamond trade. The management also held working meetings with the management of Bharat Diamond Bourse and Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India (GJEPC), discussing the global diamond market situation and potential prospects for further cooperation.

In Surat, the delegation conducted meetings with Alrosa’s long-term clients, while also visiting the cutting and jewelry companies and discussing work under long-term contracts with the clients.
