Weighing 65.7 carats, the rough gem “is endowed with high-quality characteristics” and its age is estimated at “more than 300 million years”.

Evgeny Agureev, Director of the United Selling Organization at Alrosa, said of the find: “Diamonds of a distinctive shape that resemble some object or symbol are extremely rare in nature. Most rough diamonds are octahedron-shaped or do not have a particular shape at all. The appearance of a heart-shaped rough diamond, especially on the eve of Valentine’s Day, seems to be a symbolic gift of nature not only to our company, but also to all loving couples”.

This isn’t the first happy coincidence for specially shaped stones for Alrosa: The Russian miner, which was an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup in 2018, discovered a diamond resembling a football on July 4 – just three days before Russia lost to Croatia in the quarter finals.
