Volumes of emissions of harmful substances, dynamics of water and electricity consumption, investments in environmental protection and basic principles of environmental policy were taken into account in the rating. “Our goal was to identify the companies with the most responsible attitude to the environment,” the authors of the rating explained.

As Forbes notes, in 2019 ALROSA spent RUB 7.7 billion, or about 3.2% of its revenue, on environment, which is one of the highest rates among Russian mining companies. The Company spent more than half of this amount on waste management. The share of recirculating water supply and water recycling at the enterprises of the group at the end of 2019 is 55% of the total water withdrawal.

The rating includes 30 most environmentally friendly Russian companies, with the two thirds of them from the industrial sector. The rating also includes three retailers, one financial institution and one IT company.
As a reminder, last November ALROSA ranked the second among the 50 best employers in Russia. This rating was also prepared by Forbes.
