IIJS restores confidence in jewellers
A show that it was!

The 29th edition of India International jewellery Show, organised by the Gem and Jewellery export promotion Council (GJEPC) flagged off at its scheduled time on August 23 at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre (NSE Complex), Mumbai.

For the inauguration of the show, union minister of commerce, industry and textile, Anand Sharma graced the occasion as the chief guest. Welcoming the guests and declaring the show open, Rajiv Jain talked about the slow paced international gem and jewellery market. “The market in Europe and the US is slow and the tremors can also be felt in the Indian market. However going by the registration, I am hopeful that the show might prove to be a table-turner.” The effort towards making the show better was evident from the fact that many exhibitors expressed their content towards the management and arrangement. There were lots of expectations from the show, as the market had very low sentiments given the economy upheaval in Europe and US market.

Karnmanee Loktakul of Hsin Yi Co. Ltd, said, “The show has given a boost to the market. We have had good response in terms of business. Talking arrangements, it is certainly better than last year but there is still lot of scope of improvement.”

Another overseas exhibitor, Manish Patel of M B Impex, had some other view. He said, “There was lot of traffic, but it did not convert into purchase. But broadly speaking, show has been good and well managed.”

Talking about various segments, yet another participant, Ashok Gajera of Laxmi Diamonds said, “Loose diamonds are slow, but the non-certified jewellery was registering good sale. It’s not only good, it’s fantastic.”

The biggest exhibition of the year showcased the world's best and finest in gems and jewellery across 22,000 sq mts of space. With over 10,000 visitors, 800 booths, 450+ exhibitors; Signature IIJS 2012 grew to more than double its size this year. This year the show was much more grande than its previous avatars.

Most of the exhibitors were of the opinion that though the number of visitors, compared to the last four editions were fairly less, they received patient and business-minded buyers who though not in a hurry to buy, were keenly waiting the wedding season to begin in the next few months.
