Christie’s Geneva Spring Luxury Season offered three live sale and two online sales, of which Watches: The Geneva Edit is still open for bidding until 18 May. The running total of the auctions to date is CHF 86,539,955 / $95,193,950 , with the auctions attracting registrants from 50 countries. All five auctioned welcomed new clients and significant participation was noted through Christie’s Live, the online bidding tool, which saw clients from San Francisco to Moscow and Oslo to Johannesburg actively bidding in the sales.

The Magnificent Jewels auction achieved a total of CHF57,755,750 / US$64,062,157 / €52,765,071, with sell-through rates of 91% by lot and 98% by value. Bidders from 29 countries participated in the auction.

The 100.94 carat D-colour IF Spectacle diamond was cut from a rare 207.29 carat rough diamond. The cutting process, took one year and eight months. The “emerald” shape was chosen as it allowed maintenance of the perfect geometry of the crystal. The diamond sold for CHF12,840,500 / US$14,242,567 / €11,730,951, $141,000 by carat.

5 May 2021 marked 200 years since the death of Emperor Napoléon I (1769-1821), and it is an extraordinary coincidence that the spectacular parure of sapphires and diamonds, from the collection of his adoptive daughter, Stephanie de Beauharnais, Grand Duchess of Baden (1789-1860) were presented for sale. The nine pieces included a tiara, one collier, one pair of earrings, two pendants and brooches, a ring and one bracelet, alongside the important sapphire crown of Maria II Queen of Portugal. The collection was 100% sold, achieving a combined total of
CHF3,286,250 / US$3,645,109 / €3,002,318, led by Maria II Queen of Portugal’s crown which realised CHF1,770,000 / US$1,963,268 / €1,617,054.



Further highlights of the sale included a magnificent fancy intense pink coloured diamond of 15.23 carats, which realised CHF8,604,000 / US$9,543,479 / €7,860,528, a superb fancy purplish-pink coloured diamond ring by Boucheron, which achieved CHF3,150,000 / US$3,493,952 / €2,877,808 and a heart-shaped diamond pendant of 53.53 carat, which sold for CHF2,790,000 / US$3,094,643 / €2,548,916.
