75.35-carat briolette diamond creates record at Christie's Hong Kong sale

A 75.35-carat, D, IF briolette diamond created a new world record for a briolette shape at auction, as it was bought during Christie's Hong Kong sale of magnificent jewels for $11.2 million, reports say. The stone was the top lot to be sold at the auction and also marked the third record breaking diamond result at Christie’s auctions in one season, the others being achieved at its sales in New York and Geneva.

The auction noted an overall revenue generation of $82.9 million with all top 10 lots selling above $2 million, reports say. Some of the top lots included a diamond and emerald-drop fringe necklace mounted by Boucheron, a pair of Burmese ruby and diamond ear pendants by Etcetera, a suite of jadeite and diamond jewelry, a cushion-shaped Burmese sapphire and diamond necklace by Cartier, amongst others, reports suggest.
