52.58 carat Golconda diamond sells at Christie’s for $10.9 million

The 52.58 carat D-color Internally Flawless Golconda diamond was amongst some more jewels sold at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York, that lent to the auction being a spectacular one. The sale altogether offered 495-lots, of which 425 lots went down the hammer.

The sale was held on December 10. The three-session auction realized a total of US$65,790,125.

Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland, stated: “Beginning with the historic sale of The Princie Diamond this April and culminating with the 52.58 carat D-color Internally Flawless Golconda diamond sold today, 2013 has been a stellar year for jewelry at Christie’s New York. From start to finish, prices for superb diamonds, natural pearls, and rare jewels have soared beyond their estimates, driven by intense competition from collectors worldwide.”

The Golconda diamond sold for $10.9 million, while a superb collection of diamond jewellery: Property of a lady, by Leviev achieved a sale price of $10.2 million. The second top lot was a cushion-cut D color internally flawless diamond of 26.72 carats by Leviev and sold for $4.3 million. A rectangular-cut 17.67 carat Kashmir Kashmir sapphire sold for $2.3 million. A 91.38 carat Burmese sapphire sold $1.8 million.
