101.36 carat diamond fetches $4.98 million at Christie’s Important Jewels sale

At its Important Jewels sale in New York this October on 22, Christie’s sold a Cushion-Cut L-Color VS2 Diamond of 101.36 carats for $4,981,000 ($49,100 per carat). This stone emerged as the top lot of the sale, which in total realised $33.7 million, with 260 lots from 347 lots offered being sold.

Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Christie’s Jewelry, commented: “Fine quality colorless diamonds achieved strong prices with international bidding. Collectors also bid competitively for natural pearls and special jeweled objects such as the Art Deco fish bowl clock, by Black, Starr, and Frost which realized $137,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $15,000. We look forward to continuing our season in Geneva on November 11 where our Magnificent Jewels auction will offer for sale the Blue Belle of Asia sapphire weighing 392 carats.”

The second top lot to go down the hammer was a rectangular-cut and circular-cut K-color faint brown VVS1 Potentially Internally Flawless diamond pendant necklace of 81.38 carats selling for $3,189,000. Other leading lots included a rectangular-cut H-color Potentially Internally Flawless diamond of 23.89 carats selling for $1,565,000; a rectangular-cut F-color selling for $1,505,000; a rectangular-cut G-color VVS2 diamond of 16.99 carats selling for $1,133,000.
