Speaking at the media briefing for IIJS Virtual 2.0 Colin Shah, Chairman, GJPEC mentioned special initiatives taken by the GJEPC for the benefit of G & J industry, “The council is in the process of forging ties with a large ecomm partner that would provide a 24 x 7 online retail platform exclusively for GJEPC members, commencing this January. On the policy front we have represented policy reforms impacting our sector to the FM Smt Nirmala Sitharamanji and we are hopeful that the government will consider our recommendations to boost the exports of our sector. On another note, BDB has allowed trading of lab-grown diamonds by placing strict guidelines so that the two sectors Natural and lab-grown diamonds stay separate through transparency in dealings and proper disclosures.I urge the participants to make the most of the biggest business opportunity of the first half of 2021 presented in the form of IIJS Virtual 2.0.”

The industry has shown tremendous resilience and displayed a grand comeback in record time -- this has been possible owing to a number of factors: government implementation of timely policy measures, Central Bank has injected sufficient equity into the system, mining  companies supported mid-stream segment – demand has picked up from major markets and in addition the first edition of IIJS Virtual was a tremendous success. “IIJS Virtual 2.0 will carry forward the positive vibes created by the first show, which transacted over Rs 1000 crore worth business. More than 10000 buyers are expected to visit the show and have over 15000 meetings,” said Vipul Shah, Vice Chairman, GJEPC.

Despite the trying times GJEPEC had organized IIJS Virtual which was a grand success. It was applauded by all segments of the society not just the G & J industry. “We are now working on presenting IIJS Virtual 2.0 it will be an enhanced version. We have given the show a new refreshing look and given a dashboard to visitors also. Visitors also have option of pre-booking the meeting, they also have the option of booking meetings during the show. There is an additional chat facility for all. We have made navigating the trade show simpler and effective – with 250 exhibitors and more 7000 participants it will be a grand gala,” explained Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJPEC.

The touch and feel aspect of buying gems and jewellery has now been replaced by tag and bag approach. Now there are suggestions from trade to continue with virtual format alongside the real-time buying. “IIJS Virtual 2.0 has a superior search engine, on booth check facility, product catalogue with magnifying glass, digital organizer to help track your meetings and notes, interactive knowledge forums, daily notifications on whatsapp and which will update you with your appointments, etc. I thank everyone for contribution in organizing this show,” informed Shailesh Sangani, National Exhibition Convenor, GJEPC.

The New Year has brought good news – vaccine is out and is already saving lives across the globe. The industry has begun showing green shoots. We are seeing surge in demand. In USA, China and also in India there is a ‘revenge shopping’ spree. IIJS Virtual 2.0 promises to make the most of this opportunity and opens up newer avenues for expansion of business.
