45th Angolian Independence Day: Sodiam And Multinational KGK Open A Jewelry Store In Luanda

SODIAM, the Angolan National Diamond Trading Company, and the Indian multinational KGK inaugurated a store at Hotel InterContinental Luanda Miramar, it’s a joint venture for the sale of jewelry and of cut/polished diamonds in Angola. The store opening was marked with an exhibition of jewelry and cut/polished diamonds explored and crafted in Angola and takes place within the scope of the events that mark the 45th anniversary of the country's independence.

With the opening of this store, SODIAM reinforces its position in the diamond value chain, in which the company is the only commercialization channel, supervisor and responsible for promoting the diamond polishing activity in Angola. At the same time, it continues the work it has been doing to attract credible private investors who can contribute to the development of the diamond sector, not only in cutting and polishing but also in the jewelry sector. Among others, the partnership established in 2019 with KGK reveals the results already obtained in this subject.
In addition to the showing of jewels and diamonds, SODIAM EP will share with visitor’s relevant information about the polishing industry, about the industrial units in operation, and about the development of the work at the Saurimo Diamond Development Hub, as well as about investors who have already closed investment contracts to establish themselves in the Hub.

For Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SODIAM, EP, “this is another investment that demonstrates Angola's commitment to the sharp development of its diamond sector value chain, which will be more successful with the more diamonds we are able to extract, cut and integrate them into the international jewelry industry. This store, opened in partnership with KGK, demonstrates SODIAM's interest in taking new paths and that foreign investors recognize the potential of our country in this sector of activity”.

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of KGK, Navrattan Kothari, highlights the process of installing a factory in Luanda as being of the utmost importance to consolidate the relationship between his company and Angola. “The factory, which we successfully opened in November last year, also in partnership with SODIAM, EP, allows us to be here today to show the other side of our activity - the design and manufacture of highly-designed and valuable jewelry. The goal is to continue this partnership and investment in Angola and in its diamond sector, making us a partner with value and relevance”.

This is already the second phase of the partnership established between SODIAM, E.P. and KGK, after this multinational opened a diamond cutting and polishing unit in Luanda last year. This unit, which is a cutting and polishing factory, in which 200 direct jobs were created, has the capacity to process 8,000 carats of diamonds per month.

The manufacturing unit, located in Cruzeiro (Miramar), in Luanda, is a modern infrastructure, with cutting-edge diamond cutting and polishing technology, making it a bold investment when compared to those made in similar facilities built by KGK in India, Russia, South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.

Founded in India in 1905 by Shri Kesrimal Ji and Shri Ghisilal Ji Kothari, born in the city of Jaipur, KGK has developed under the leadership of the family patriarch, Navrattan Khotari. Currently, this multinational conglomerate employs 14,000 professionals and has offices, cutting and marketing units in Asia, North and South America, Europe, Africa, Russia and the Middle East.
