U.S. saw an increase in its polished diamond imports in May 2012 over the same month last year In value terms the said exports rose 3.4 percent to $2.607 billion. In volume terms the said imports rose 2.4 percent to 1.513 million.
Exports of polished diamonds plunged in May 2012 by 3.3 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $1.311 billion. Net polished diamond imports increased 11 percent year on year in May to $1.296 billion.
Rough diamond exports decreased 32.5 percent to $27 million. Rough diamond imports dropped 21.4 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $55 million. This resulted in net rough imports worth $28 million ($31 million in May 2011).
