India Post is welcoming the spirit of Akshaya Tritiya, with offering 6 percent discount on gold coins of different denominations. This offer is being activated in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated in India as an auspicious day welcoming prosperity. Traditionally, gold is bought on this day, as the yellow metal is believed to be a symbol of prosperity.

India Post has been selling gold coins made by Switzerland's Valcambi, since 2008, following a tie-up with World Gold Council and Reliance Money Infrastructure Ltd. It currently sells gold coins across over 800 post offices in India.

Akshaya Tritiya falls on April 24 this year and the India Post offer will be active across designated post offices in Andhra Pradesh and for gold coins of denominations - 0.5 g, 8 g, 10 g, 20 g and 50 g of 24 carat and 99.99 per cent purity, reports say.
