Argentium silver seems to be making inroads into Thailand, with the recent partnership between Argentium International, a company established to deliver the benefits of Argentium Silver, and Thailand's pre-eminent silver manufacturer, Precious Chain and Findings (part of the Cookson Precious Metals Group). The partnership with manufacture and distribute Argentium Silver in Thailand.

Argentium Silver constitutes silver, copper and germanium. Being tarnish resistant, and capable of being manufactured without fire-scale, allows a higher proportion of silver to be added to the alloy, while retaining the strength necessary for day-to-day use. Argentium silver has two varieties: Argentium 925 Silver and the premium grade product, Argentium 970-Pure Silver. Both are stronger, harder and more versatile than traditional silver. Argentium 970-Pure Silver is the purest commercial form of silver in which a silver collection can be constructed.

Vishal Kedia, Managing Director of Precious Chain and Findings said: "Argentium Silver's natural properties distinguish it from any other precious metal. Its strength and versatility allows manufacturers and designers to produce items that were just not possible using traditional sterling silver”. The Argentium silver is predicted to be the new craze in Asian markets, after sterling silver. The Argentium 925 Silver variety has been commercially available since 2005 and used popularly as a superior alternative to sterling silver. Argentium 970-Pure Silver will be officially launched in Q4 2008. Although with the partnership, both varieties are available in all forms at Precious Chain and Findings.

Richard Leyens, Chief Executive Officer, Argentium International said: "The team at Precious Chain and Findings in Thailand shares our vision for the huge potential of Argentium Silver and their skills are highly complementary to ours. It is this combination that will drive Argentium Silver to be the pre-eminent choice for Thailand's silver industry."

As Argentium 970 is fire scale free, what is the surface contamination after casting on the Argentium 970 alloy? It appears to be fire scale that goes much deper than fire scale on standard 925 sterling silver. The discoloration goes from a deep gray color to a light gray haze.
