Two extraordinary rough diamond cuffs designed by L’wren Scott were seen on the Red Carpet today at the 79th Academy Awards. The cuffs, worn by Nicole Kidman, display 187 diamonds totalling massive 375 carats and represent a unique and fresh direction in diamond jewellery.
The cuffs, designed by Scott and manufactured by diamantaire William Goldberg, utilize very
unusual “arrowhead” shaped diamonds that are known as maccles. These are distorted octahedrals that at some point in their growth have “changed direction” causing the distinctive triangle shape. These gems are rough uncut diamonds from the Diamond Trading Company (DTC) being shown in their absolutely natural state. Each diamond was individually selected by the designer to fit together into the overall design. These unique diamonds are typically found in diamond mines in Botswana, Russia, and South Africa.
