Stepping into the Show Season
As we enter the season of trade shows and fairs, the diamond industry will have its work cut out for them. The annual Las Vegas JCK show was met with a lukewarm response by buyers and saw increased activity at the lab grown diamond sector. While Rapnet took into account the trade’s unanimous request to not publish a price list for synthetic diamonds, it is undeniable that lab grown diamonds market is growing.

Furthermore, the US decision to withdraw incentives for Indian exporters is sure to have an adverse effect on the gems and jewellery industry on the whole. India hopes that with the help of discussions both parties should be able to arrive at an amicable conclusion. But for now, the situation seems quite uncertain.

With increased use of advanced technology, ALROSA has developed a diamond tracing technology that allows the user to obtain a complete history of a diamond in digital and video formats. Not far behind, Venus Jewels has also partnered with TRACR to help development of a true blockchain system that begins the blockchain process from the mine of origin.

Several leading jewelers were seen gaining valuable insights from an educational program to create dynamic leaders for today, at a session organized by Forevermark with London School of Economics at Shanghai. Embracing technology and leaders who have the means and the wisdom to cope with a disruptive era – these two are nonnegotiable for the future of our industry.
