Young girl robs necklace worth around HK$36 million

The robbery took place at a store of Emperor Jewellery

A jewellery robbery in Hong Kong, worth an estimated a HK$36 million, was orchestrated by a gang of thieves involving a 12-year old girl, reports say. According to South China Morning Post, the police are hunting the gang, which planned this heist at the Emperor Jewellery luxury jewellery store at 1881 Heritage shopping mall.

As per reports, the event occurred with two women, a man and a 12-year old girl walked into the store after 3pm. The adults, who spoke Putonghua, were well dressed and posed as big spenders, distracting the staff, and asking them to show some jewellery pieces. In the backdrop, the youth stole a key from a drawer, unlocked a display cabinet and stole the 100-carat gold necklace carrying over 30 diamonds (totaling about 100 carats).

Through the CCTV footage it was noted the girl walked out calmly from the store and out of the mall and the detectives believe she may have changed her attire before taking a taxi. The adults remained in the shop for 30 minutes before leaving. The disappearance of the necklace was not noticed by the staff until before 5pm, following which the police was informed. Police say this is the first time in recent year where a child has been part of a robbery. A search for the thieves is on and border officers are searching for the thieves as police fears they would leave the city, as per reports.
