Update: Strike against excise duty garners support and strength

Jewellers, association and almost the entire industry has been extending support to the bandh / strike against the excise duty. The jewellers are striking against imposition of excise duty on jewellery in the recent Budget.  

Today, thousands of Jewellers in Jaipur marched a 1.5 km protest rally against excise duty. All associations of Rajasthan participated in this rally.

A mega strike called ‘Maha rally of all India Jewellers’ is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on March 17th in Ram Leela Madian and more than 10 Lakh people are expected from all over India. In support of the ongoing strike of jewellers across India, the diamond and diamond studded jewellery industry will remain closed on Thursday 17th, March 2016. 

The Mumbai Diamonds Merchants Association (MDMA) and The Diamond Exports Association Limited (DEAL) has requested all those involved in the diamond and diamond studded industry including members of Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and The Gems and Jewellery Exports Promotion Council (GJEPC) to observe bandh in support of the striking jewellers. 

A spokesperson from BDB also confirmed their support for the bandh for March 17th.
