UBM’s Delhi fair impresses – Good Attempt

The recently held UBM’s Delhi Gem and Jewellery Fair can be termed as yet another effort by the industry insiders to enliven the sentiments in the market and create yet another platform for jewellers and consumers to interact and transact. The event witnessed a good turnout of small town buyers from neighbouring states, like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and so on. While the magnitude of the transaction may not be huge, the overall performance of the show definitely puts it in the category of promising events that are to be looked forward to.

Taking place on the heels of India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), the show definitely had participants who came with realistic expectations. However, the quality turnout has given promising future of the show in the capital city. Sanjeev Kheira, Director, UBM, said, “This was the first year and the fair was scheduled too close to IIJS. However, we intend to increase the fair size, in terms of arrangements and hopefully business too, by two to three folds. Also, we would have the fair planned in second week of October, which will be suitable for both jewellers and buyers. The response this time was encouraging.” The event witnessed most exhibitors showcasing loose diamonds and diamond jewellery. Apart from business and transactions, the show also proved to be a platform for information exchange and dissemination through seminar. In the seminar, the panel of experts comprised prominent names like Ramesh Narang, Subhash Bhola, Pawan Gupta, Prerna Khurana along with others.

Corroborating the fact that the fair was a good attempt and expressing their satisfaction were a few exhibitors. Anuj Ajmera of Amore Jewels said, “The show proved to be good for us. Here, we could connect to those buyers whom we knew but had not done business or a few of them with whom we had not transacted since long. To put it in simple words, we have addition in the list of buyers now. To ensure that all the business that we have garnered here materialises and for this we have local office for North India market and we are easily able to give service to the buyers in this part of the country.”

Another exhibitor, Shailesh Shaghani of Priority Jewels said, “The show is great. The constant inflow of buyers, who came in with queries and business on their mind, kept us buys throughout. We are not free for a single minute in this show, buyers are coming from different states from North India and they are here to do some serious business. After such over-whelming response, I would also expect this show to grow bigger and better in coming years.” The show culminated on a positive note and everyone went home happy with good business in their kitty and loads of expectation for the show next year.
