Sotheby’s Hong Kong Spring Sale to present masterpieces and works by legendary jewellery makers

The Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Spring Sale 2017 will present a range of rare and exquisite design masterpieces alongside works by legendary jewellery makers. Highlights include a very rare and important Art Deco Gem Set and Diamond clock by Cartier, a unique pair of ruby and diamond bangles by design extraordinaire, BHAGAT and remarkable gem-set and diamond necklace by Mauboussin. Alongside these are a selection of diamonds, superb natural coloured gemstones, pearls, and jadeite jewels.

The sale is slated on 4 April at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The rare art deco gem set and diamond mystery clock - ‘Le Ciel’ is being presented at an estimate of US$1.36 million 1.81 million. Cartier produced a special collection of clocks between 1922 and 1931 incorporating antique Chinese jade cravings from the 18th and 19th centuries. ‘Le Ciel’ is one of only 13 clocks from the collection still known to exist. Its deigns embraces the orbit of the planets and is saturated with symbolism. The celestial dial embellished with bejewelled shooting stars and planets, the diamond-set cornet hands, a dial supported by a pair of two antique jade carps the moonstone and carved coral are applied in the timepiece.

A rare gem set and diamond pendent necklace, Mauboussin carries the estimate of US$765,000 970,000. Set with carved gemstones, the long sautoir can be separated into four bracelets with a detachable pendant of giardinetto motif. Designed in 1929, this piece embodies the archetypal designs of the era.

A fine diamond bracelet by Harry Winston, estimated at US$ 258,000 323,000 displays the signature ‘Winston’ flair of distinctive arrangements of pear-shaped and circular cut diamonds set in fine, handmade, articulated, unobtrusive wire settings of platinum. A unique pair of ruby and diamond bangles by BHAGAT will be offered and carries an estimate of US$252,000 361,000. Designed as a series of flower buds encrusted with diamonds carved out of one solid piece of platinum, the diamond buds terminate in calibrated ruby ovals. The hidden hinge and clasp is unique and devised entirely by BHAGAT. The bangles were handcrafted over a period of several months. A diamond, sapphire and emerald ring, 'Panthère' by Cartier carries an estimate of US$194,000 258,000 in the sale. The ring depicts the emerald-gaze of the panther transfixed as the sapphire and diamond-set coat dazzles in bejewelled splendour. An important jadeite and diamond demi-parure estimated at US$2.58 million 3.87 million will be offered on the sale.
