Shore Gold achieves encouraging results from LDD programme

Canadian company Shore Gold Inc achieved results that it described as encouraging from its 12 hole Large Diameter Drilling (LDD) programme recently completed on the Orion South (OS) Kimberlite in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, reports say. The company conducted the drilling process at the Early Joli Fou (EJF) and Pense kimberlites located at the company’s Star-Orion South diamond project near Prince Albert.

The LDD programme included 412.63 drilled tonnes from the EJF intersection grading 12.0 cpht, 134.82 drilled tonnes from the Pense intersections grading 4.1 cpht, and 114.37 drilled tonnes grading 1.6 cpht from other intersections. Also, the company recovered stones of over 1 carat from a relatively small diamond parcel, as per reports.

The largest diamond recovered was a white 3.25 carat stone, apart from which others of 1.15 carat, 1.09 carat and 1.04 carat were also recovered. Of the diamonds recovered around 45 percent are white and the remainder mainly pale brown and brown, while a small proportion of diamonds were grey and yellow.

Also according to a 2011 technical report and feasibility study, the estimated reserves are at around 279 million tonnes with 34.4 million carats of diamonds and a weighted average price of US$ 242 per carat, which can be profitably mined over 20 years. The Star and Orion South Kimberlites is also estimated to include inferred resources containing 15.7 million carats, reports say. The company is confident that the ‘diamond grades determined from this LDD program will enable a substantial kimberlite tonnage to be added to the Indicated Mineral Resource category when the Revised Mineral Resource estimate is determined in the coming months,’ reports add.
