September HK Jewellery and Gem fair sees high participation

The September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair of 2009 will begin on 21 September 2009, with higher number of participants, more deliverables and possibly a better business environment, than last year. According to country leaders and economists, while the economic slowdown did dampen the jewellery trade worldwide in the first half of 2009, markets are signaling some improvement. Buyers are expected to start replenishing inventory for the holiday shopping season.

This year the event will be conducted at the two exhibitions venues: the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE), which began in 2006, but with a product sectorisation by venue, and an exhibition space expanded by 25 percent to 120,000 sq, mtrs. The product sectorisation will include exhibitors in diamonds, pearls, coloured gemstones, equipment and packaging, and exhibitors at HKCEC will showcase only finished jewellery. Over 3,000 exhibitors from 44 countries and regions are participating this year.

Three new pavilions are arranged for the participants - Hong Kong Premier Pavilion featuring nearly 40 Hong Kong exhibitors, International Premier Pavilion with almost 40 prestigious international jewellery companies from 16 countries and regions, Fine Gem Pavilion dedicated to the world’s finest loose diamonds, pearls and gemstones, The largest Diamond Pavilion in the world at AWE housing 400 exhibitors including AWDC, IDI to showcase fine cut and polished diamonds, The biggest-ever Thailand Pavilion featuring 301 exhibitors from Thailand at both venues, the Hong Kong Pavilion with almost 1,200 exhibitors, a dedicated area for jewellery designers, a Creative Zone at HKCEC to showcase creative talent of about 30 jewellery designers from around the world, 21 Group Pavilions at both venues - Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States and the International Coloured Gemstone Association (ICA).

"Our product sectorisation policy and the expansion of HKCEC have enabled exhibitors to expand their exhibition space. The total exhibition space and the number of exhibitors are up by 25 percent and 16 percent, respectively, compared to last year,” said Mr Jimé Essink, President & Chief Executive Officer of UBM Asia, organiser of the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.

Around 40 percent of the participation is from Hong Kong, while among overseas participants, Thailand holds the second largest pavilion with 301 companies, amongst the European countries, Italy heads the list, the US market is represented by 150 exhibitors, while the number of participating Indian companies has doubled from last year’s 67 numbers to 129 in 2009.

The fair has also lined up a series of special events. The show at the AsiaWorld-Expo‧Hong Kong is slated between 21 - 24 September 2009, while the event at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre is scheduled between 23 - 26 September 2009. This is the 27th anniversary of the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.
