September HK Jewellery & Gem Fair does not bring cheer

The September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair 2012 did not bring in much cheer to the industry, which had pinned hopes that the show would add some positive tempo in the current tough times.

Polished diamond suppliers reported average sales amid low response from Asian buyers, including Chinese buyers. This does not give positivity to the diamond industry, as much of the demand for the polished diamonds was dependent on the success of Hong Kong show. Diamond World got a mixed response from exhibitors, for few the show was very slow, and for few it met expectations and they are looking at business getting better in coming months.

The Hong Kong Fair was held at two venues - At AsiaWorld-Expo between 19-23, September, 2012. Here, the second day churned the highest turnout of buyers as compared to other days. Diamonds in lower color and quality did well, while top color diamonds (D-E-F colors) moved really slow.

The second venue - the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (between 21-25, September, 2012) saw luke-warm response for jewellery. The country pavilion received low traffic, where as HK and China pavilion saw much better traffic and business. The Grand Hall received very low traffic, with majority of them being window shoppers.
