The government of India had established the GJSCI citing the industry to be a high growth sector for the country.
SGL’s courses in diamond grading have become popular in tier 1, 2 and 3 cities and with the opening of the 9th SGL laboratory in Kolkata, India; it becomes the largest span of international laboratories reaching out to an even larger network across the country.
As part of the initiative, the Qualified Diamond Grader course will include theory as well as practical knowledge in grading diamonds as per the 4C’s as well as knowledge on synthetic diamonds, stimulants and treatments taught by a highly qualified set of international instructors. SGL Education headed by Claudia Domante, a double qualified graduate in gemmology and Shaheen Bandukwalla as Co – Faculty with an experience of over four years in the jewellery industry in London, students have much to gain from their rich experience. As courses will be carried out across the country, each course will provide local language support for a better understanding of market terms and trade names. All SGL faculty members have been accredited through a government assessment, once again maintaining a high standard.
Through the association with the GJSCI, SGL will continue to maintain its international standards in terms of educational material, standards of grading and equipment provided to each student developing skilled workforce assisting the productivity and growth of this sector. This collaboration gives jewellery organisations an opportunity to train their staff under an international laboratory, recognised by the Government of India.
