Rockwell’s rough diamond production up 54% in November quarter

In the quarter that closed November 30, 2013, Rockwell Diamonds Inc. noted a 54 percent increase (on y-o-y basis) in its diamond production which amounted to 9,148 carats. Sales of 6,066 carats achieved in the three months valued US$10.7 million in diamond revenues, a 50 percent increase in volume terms and 45 percent increase in value terms over the same quarter last year, reports say. The average price per carat dropped 3 percent to US$1,764 per carat, reports add.

The company believes its strategy to focus on the Middle Orange River region is doing well for it. The sale and production in volume terms from the region more than doubled while the value of the sales increased almost threefold to US$7.8 million, reports add. The average price per carat rose 24 percent reports say.

The compnay discovered five rough diamonds from the region, over 115 carats since the end of August 2013, of which the largest was 287 carats, reports add.
