Peek into latest trends at BASELWORLD

The pre-event feelers are already making their ways, as exhibitors and participants are wondering what’s in store at the BASELWORLD – the World Watch and Jewellery Show -2009. The event is being scheduled between March 26 to April 2, 2009 at the Exhibition Center Basel, with six exhibition halls of 160,000 m2 in total, showcasing unique designs and setting trends for the watches and jewellery sector.. This rendezvous for the world's leading brands promises to be the true highlight of the watch and jewellery industry in 2009 once again.

Going by what the experts opine will be the trend in watches for 2009 - anything that is theoretically feasible from the design angle, exhibitors are likely to bring forth a variety of creativity. The approach is towards blending materials and techniques. Big and bold watches in a wide variety of materials continue to be favourites The predominantly round cases, often featuring square components, are both flat and elegant.

The other aspect of the show – jewellery is seeing a return of the classic appeal. Ornamental decors reminiscent of art nouveau and art deco are all the rage for 2009 as per experts. This development will be manifested in watches set with an abundance of precious stones, while boasting highly decorative elements, sculptural forms and surprising materials. "And, at quite the opposite end of the scale, come sober, minimalist styles, which will similarly be making their mark over the year to come," explains an expert, venturing a further look into the near future.

Adding to the glamour and bling, trends in precious stones and pearls: will see the red spinel emerging as the most preferred stone. Also, the mandarin garnet will be a much sought after stone, with these particular stones generally having a classic cut. Engraving on precious stones is also gaining importance, while cameos and engraved banded agate in signet rings are making a comeback. Another trend is coloured pearls, including ones in shades of gold and brown. And the bigger the finished pieces of jewellery are, the greater the need for big pearls and stones.

BASELWOLRD is outlining a focused approach to deliver the best networking platform it has been renowned for so far. Sylvie Ritter, Director of BASELWORLD is confident that "preparations are in full swing, we'll have all the big brands on board again and we'll be staging an unforgettable event for exhibitors and visitors alike." The event is being organized by MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd.
