Officials from DAC meet with GJEPC

A delegation consisting of high level officials from Diamond Administration of China ( DAC) visited the GJEPC, the apex body of the Indian gem and jewellery industry and various centes and offices of the Indian diamond trade, seeking learnings and cooperation. The visit which was conducted towards end-December 2011, included meeting Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s (GJEPC) representatives, trips to the Bharat Diamond Bourse – one of the main diamond trading centres in India, the Kimberley Process Cell to acquire KP know how, customs office and diamond manufacturing unit to gain a first hand understanding of diamond manufacturing as it is conduced in India.

GJEPC and DAC jointly agreed to promote Diamond consumption in India and China through educating consumers, creating innovative programmes and end to end consumer marketing.

DAC group was led by Zhang Bin, Assistant Chairman, Diamond Administration of China, JiGuangyu, Deputy Director, Diamond Administration of China, Wang Tiefeng, Deputy Commissioner, Pudong Customs,Liu Feng, Deputy Director, Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine BureauCao Lu, Vice Director Researcher, Shanghai Local Taxation Bureau.

GJEPC was represented by Mr. Sanjay Kothari, Vice-Chairman, GJEPC, Mr. Vasant Mehta, Chairman, IIGJ and Special Diamond Advisor to China, Mr. Bakul Mehta, Convener, Diamond Panel, Mr. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC and other members of the Diamond Panel Committee of the Council.

DAC had organised the first Diamond Cultural Festival in China, educating the youth about investing in diamonds. GJEPC has expressed interest to participate in the Diamond Cultural Festival.
