Lucara Diamond invites people of Botswana to name its 1,111 carat diamond

Lucara Diamond Corp. is inviting the people of Botswana to name its recent discovery – the 1,111 carat diamond from its Karowe mine in Botswana, reports say. For this, the company has initiated a competition. The diamond is reputed as the largest diamond to be recovered in Botswana and the second largest diamond found in the world.

The competition is being run from January 18th to 28th. There would be only one winner for the competition. Entrants are permitted to submit any number of names, along with the brief reason and description for the suggested names. The winner would be awarded P 25,000.

According to William Lamb, Chief Executive Officer of Lucara Diamond, the suggestion of such a competition came from the Minister of Minerals Energy and Water Resources, the Hon’ble Kitso Mokaila, upon citing the diamond, as per reports.
