Lesser footfall but serious buyers at JCK

With changing consumer preferences, only well prepared ones will survive, be it gems and jewellery suppliers, manufacturers or retailers.
Lesser footfall but serious buyers at JCK

Over the past few years, at the end of every show it was evident that one cannot come to the show without any strong plan in hand to handle the varied consumers. And this was obvious during this year’s JCK Las Vegas show, which just wrapped up. Though the visitor traffic has been lesser this year vis-à-vis last year, there were certainly serious buyers on the shop floor.

Every year, the gems and jewellery fraternity move to JCK Show to take a mid-year stock of things. This year, though there has been discussions going around in regards to show not being held during weekend. A lot of exhibitors opined that lesser traffic at the show could have been the result of show being held during weekdays. They felt that retailers are wary of leaving their shops during weekdays while weekend shows prove to be good for both – exhibitors and retailers.

One day prior to the JCK Fair, the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) GemFair Las Vegas opens in the South Pacific and Islander ballrooms of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. This year the show opened on 4th June. This year, the colourstones received average response. The Pantone Colour of the year is ‘Greenery’ so it was expected that the peridot, tsavorite, emerald would receive good response. However as compared to the former two, emerald being expensive received lukewarm response.

Other than gemstones, diamonds received good demand. The buyers were looking for quality products.

JCK Las Vegas show was held from 5th – 8th June while Luxury show was held from 2nd – 8th June at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. AGTA show began on 4th June and continued till 8th June.
