India’s cut and polished diamond exports up 3.67% in May

India’s gem and jewellery exports, rose 9.32 percent on y-o-y basis on May 2017, valuing US$ 3.97 billion, reports say. Exports of cut and polished diamond rose 3.67 percent on y-o-y to US$ 2.05 billion, while that of gold jewellery (both studded and plain), slipped around 30 percent to US$ 533.51 million, reports add.

The country’s imports of rough diamonds were at US$ 1.86 billion rising 22.5 percent in value and around 50 percent in volume to 15.1 million carats. Cut and polished diamond imports slipped 1.9 percent to US$ 244.47 million.

There was a 7 percent fall in exports of coloured gemstones, which US$ 30.19 million, reports say. Gold medallions and coins exported in May valued US$ 455.4 million from US$ 329 million in May 2016, while silver jewellery exports rose to US$ 746.6 million this year in May from US$ 370 million in May 2016, as per reports.
