India’s cut and polished diamond exports up 13.24% in May

India’s gem and jewellery sector recorded an upswing in overall exports in May 2016, rising 29.43 percent on y-o-y basis to reach US$ 3.32 billion, reports add.

The country’s cut and polished diamond exports in the said month increased 13.24 percent on y-o-y basis, to touch US$ 1.97 billion. Imports of cut and polished diamonds were up US$ 249.06 million, compared to US$ 195.48 million imported in the same month last year.

Rough diamond imports too saw an encouraging trading result. Imports of the said category increased 15.09 percent in value terms to US$ 1.52 billion and rose 9 percent in volume terms to 12.11 million carats, reports note.

Gold jewellery exports (studded and plain) increased a whooping 48.30 percent to US$ 801.00 million, reports add.

Silver jewellery exports increased to US$ 369.42 million, from US$ 121.55 million in the same month last year. Coloured gemstone exports rose to US$ 32.14 million, from US$ 27.16 million in May 2015.
