The international Gemological Institute, IGI India has opened its School of Gemology at Laxmi Tower - A in BKC, Mumbai.

Peter Huyghebaert, Consul General of Belgium in Mumbai was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. Other guests present at the ceremony were Colin Shah, ViceChairman, GJEPC, Mehul Shah, VP, Bharat Diamond Bourse, Shailesh Sangani, Convenor of the Exhibitions Sub-Committee of the GJEPC, Ghanshyam Dholakia from Hari Krishna Exports, Milan Parikh from Mahendra Brothers, Rajesh Lakhani from Kiran Gems, Ashraf Motiwala from A.S. Motiwala.

Congratulating the graduating students, Peter Huyghebaert during his speech said, “Diamond industry is facing a lot of challenges. Selling a diamond dream is becoming complex as it faces challenges from other luxury industries. In this scenario, School of Gemology is the need of the hour. It will prepare you to face these challenges. My best wishes to the School of Gemology and the graduating students.”

Tehmasp Printer, MD, IGI-India spoke about the journey IGI in India. He said, “We were instrumental in educating the entire industry about certification and diamond grading standards. Thus, the international grading standards were introduced to the diamond manufacturers. Today, IGI and the industry has come a long way.”
