The Hong Kong Gem and Jewellery September edition that attracts over 50,000 visitors every year is one of the biggest jewellery events. People across the board look forward to this show to network, increase their brand visibility, liaise with existing clients, introduce their new product portfolio and more.

For a visitor, the show offers everything that a jeweller might need, from jewellery findings, packaging, to gemstones and jewellery.

This year, the Show has had quite a few impediments surrounding it. To Begin with, Super Typhoon Mankhut, what is supposed to be the most powerful tropical typhoon has kept the visitors from coming to the show. This has naturally led the international visitor turnout to dip as compared to the previous years.

The weakness of Chinese Yuan and Indian Rupee hasn’t really helped in boosting the market – buyers are cautious and are unwilling to close deals at higher prices. On the second day, a handful of Indian exhibitors closed their businesses as many of them observed Paryushan (Jain festival).

The visitor turn out on the 3rd day is also expected to be low because many Israeli companies may be closed for business due to Sabbath. Owing to the typhoon warning, the show may even be closed on the 4th day. Saturday seems to be a litmus test for the show in terms of footfalls, though it is highly likely that visitors may end up staying indoors because of the typhoon alert.
