GJEPC interacts with local associations for CFC project

The project intends to support small and medium manufacturing units across various locations

A review of the development of the Common Facility Centre (CFC) project proposed by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) across four locations - Ahmedabad, Amreli, Palanpur and Visnagar was made by a team, reports say. The team comprised of the GJEPC delegation including its Executive Director, government officials and a representative from the IDI, reports add.

The project was proposed with the intent to support and help the small and medium manufacturing units across various locations in terms of enabling them with access to the latest diamond cutting and polishing technology. The Council proposed the CFCs at 13 locations, and has been approved under the 12th Five Year Plan. The first four centres were identified and a detailed project report was prepared by IDI, reports add.

The project is being taken up in the first phase at the said four locations. As part of the review the team took a note of the facilities and interacted with local trade members and associations to come to decisions on the project’s implementation. The project has received Central government approval and funds sanctioned for the development of the CFCs at these four locations. The team informed the trade members with a project overview and the terms and conditions defined by the government at the time of sanctioning funds, including the obligations of local associations to run, operate and manage the CFC. The trade members were also informed of the proposed structure of Council's Project Steering Committee, Implementation and Monitoring Committee, the expectations of Government of India and support of GJEPC towards the project’s success. The centres will be run on 'No Profit No Loss' basis to support the small unit holders. An outline of the expansion and future upgradation of machinery was also taken up during discussions, reports add.
