GJEPC announces Vasant Mehta as Chairman

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has elected a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman at its 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held on 30th September 2008 in Mumbai. The newly elected Committee of Administration, including 21 members and three government nominees have elected Mr. Vasant Mehta, as the Chairman of the Council and Mr. Rajiv Jain, Chairman, Jaipur region will be the Vice-Chairman of the Council.

Mr. Mehta will be replacing the outgoing Chairman of the Council Mr. Sanjay Kothari, who has completed his tenure of two years as Chairman from 2006-2008.

Mr. Mehta is a second-generation diamantaire and founder and senior partner of M/S. V. Rameshchandra & Co., Mumbai. He was introduced to GJEPC as an honorary member in 1969 and has since then scaled in rank and responsibilities including that of being re-elected as Vice Chairman of the Council until year 2008. He has represented GJEPC at CIBJO, wherein he actively promoted the cause of CIBJO and best practices in jewellery trade. He is experienced in being a convener of the Banking Insurance and Taxation Committee for over 10 years, as a member of the committee of the Bharat Diamond Bourse and Advisor to their Legal Committee. Presently, he holds the rank of Vice President of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and is a special advisor to China Diamond Industry. He continues to serve at IIGJ, Mumbai, being promoted form Director to Chairman of the institute.

Mr. Jain is the present chairman of Sambhav Gems and also works as the Secretary of Jaipur Jewellery Show. He has under his achievements headed as Promoter and Director - Vaibhav Gems Ltd., the first Public Ltd. Company within Jaipur’s jewellery sector. His involvement with GJEPC in the past has been as Convener, Colour Gemstone Panel. Also, he has been the ex - Chairman of the CII, Rajasthan Sector, Director of International Colour Gemstone Association (ICA), Honorary Secretary of Jaipur Jewellery Show & as the Ex-Vice President of Jewellers’ Association of Jaipur. Both the new Council heads will hold office from 2008 - 2010. Within their new roles, both will be responsible for the smooth functioning of the Council.
