GJEPC and government delegation visit Surat

A delegation led by Gujarat Regional Chairman Dineshbhai Nevadia and including members of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) visited Surat for a meeting with officials of the Gujarat Hira Bourse and Surat Hira Bourse, reports say. The purpose was to review the possibilities of two locations being sites for a Special Notified Zone (SNZ) for rough diamond trading, reports add.

As part of the interactions, the GJEPC explained the process and working of the SNZ as per the government notifications, the roles, responsibility and possible route ahead to set up the SNZ in Surat. . The team also reviewed the infrastructure facilities offered by both the organisations, reports add.

The central government has issued a notification for GJEPC and BDB to set up a SNZ within the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai. There was a request by the Surat diamond industry for a similar zone to be set up in the city, reports add. After considering the opinions of industry members on probable locations for the SNZ, the GJEPC intends to present its suggestions to the government, as per reports.
