GJEPC Chairman condemns Mumbai’s bomb attacks

Calling the Mumbai bomb blasts a "senseless devastation and cowardly act", which shook the city’s diamond industry, Mr. Rajiv Jain, Chairman, The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) also added a sense of hope, that the industry was stronger than to be ‘brow-bitten with such acts of cowardice’.

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, saying, “On behalf of GJEPC and the entire gem & jewellery community of India, I convey our most heartfelt condolences to the citizens of Mumbai, following the dastardly terrorist attacks which struck Mumbai yesterday evening. The Indian gem & jewellery industry and particularly that of the diamond industry's voice loudly joins the chorus of all those who rightfully and vociferously condemn these repeated acts of terrorism on the financial capital of the country.

“We are distressed and pained to know of the loss of our industry colleagues who had suffered when they were busy in contributing to the business and progress of exports of the country through toil and hard work. However the industry is not deterred and cannot be brow-bitten with such acts of cowardice and will continue to work with the entire business community and the consumers alike - to ensure that such acts were not allowed to disrupt stability in the diamond and jewellery markets in India and the world alike, which is so important to sustain the economic growth and the advancement of Indian and global prosperity”, he added.

“ We reaffirm that GJEPC stands ready to assume its responsibility to work with all the stakeholders of the industry, the people of Mumbai and the government for ensuring the stability, the wellbeing and security of the diamond and jewellery business districts of Mumbai at Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House”, he stated further. Also, Mr. Jain made an appeal to the government to stop the ‘recurring of such continued attacks on peace loving citizens of Mumbai’.
