GJEPC’s first-ever India Rough Gemstones Show in Jaipur ends on a positive note

The first-ever India Rough Gemstones show held from 8^th to 10^th January  at Hotel Marriott in Jaipur organized by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) concluded successfully. Shri Subhash Chand Agarwal, Commissioner of Customs, Jaipur was the Chief Guest for the event. Miners and traders in rough gemstones from Afghanistan, Canada, Ethiopia, Hong Kong (SAR of China), Madagascar, Tanzania, Thailand and Zambia were among the 42 international companies exhibited in the show.

GJEPC Chairman Praveenshankar Pandya said, “I am happy to know that the first-ever India Rough Gemstones Show in Jaipur was a successful one. We would be organizing such shows in the future as well to make sure that manufacturers overcome one of the biggest challenges they face – the lack of a steady supply of rough with consistent qualities and stable price ranges.  India’s exports of colored gemstones accounted for US$ 420.11 million in FY2016-17 and the major consuming markets were Hongkong, USA and Thailand. I believe that this sector has huge potential and can further contribute to the economy by increasing exports and generating employment.”

Commenting on the show, one of the participating Exhibitor said “IRGS has served the combined purpose of Market Research, Promote our company products as well as meet prospective buyers for our products. We commend the efforts by GJEPC in putting up this unique show. We really hope, we will make inroads to newer markets”

The show received equally enthusiastic response from the visitors to IRGS. “We are very happy to identify this new opportunity to source our buying requirements. We have come across many new and better products in this show. Going forward, GJEPC should make it an annual event” said one of the visitors

The Indian coloured gemstone industry in Jaipur is considered to be one of the finest cutting centre for Emerald, Tanzanite, Morganite and many other gemstones. Jaipur processes more than 300 different varieties of precious and semi-precious gemstones which makes it the colored gemstone capital of the world.

Kishandas Maheshwari, Convener, Coloured Gemstones Panel said, “The first-ever rough gemstone show was a successful one! I am glad that GJPEC has started this initiative India Rough Gemstones Show 2018” with an aim to improve the supply of raw material for coloured gemstone industry. We would consider the feedback received from the miners and manufacturers and would like to organize this show in a much bigger way in the future.”
