GILC receives tremendous response and leads to an expanded GILC agenda

An overwhelming response to the Gemstone Industry & Laboratory Conference (GILC) has led its co-organisers of the event, the International Colored Gemstone Association and the American Gem Trade Association to organise an expanded, full-day meeting agenda. The GILC is an invitation-only event organised by ICA for over a decade, across the world. The platform has top industry leaders presenting research findings and discussing gemological and certification issues for the trade and consumers.

The GILC expanded meeting is slated for February 1, 2010 at the Tucson Convention Center, when an industry expert will introduce some key issues at the meeting. The expanded agenda will include – Uniform System for Gemstone Grading/Certification: Teruko Okamoto, Bejewel Co. Ltd., Advisor to Sri Lankan Government and Minister for Minerals and Mines; Nomenclature for lead glass filled corundum: Introduction by Christopher P. Smith, President of American Gemological Laboratories; Update on Emerald Treatments Detection & Laboratory Reports: Introduction by Dr. Lore Kiefert, Chief Gemologist, Gubelin Gem Lab; Andesine: Controversies on Origins, Treatments and Disclosures: Introduction by Dr. Ahmadjan Abduriyim of Gemological Association of All Japan; Uranium Mineral As Inclusions in Turquoise: Introduction by Shane McClure, Director West Coast Identification Services, Gemological Institute of America; Ethical Mining, Fair Trade and Laboratory Issues: Introduction by Jean Claude Michelou, ICA Vice President; Coloured Stone Quality Standards: Opportunities for Gem Trade Industry: Introduction by Dr. Pornsawat Wathanakul, Academic Advisor, Gem & Jewelry Institute of Thailand.

The meeting is also lined up with discussions that will centre around reaching acceptable solutions, as mentioned by Chairman of GILC, Sushil Goyal. Working groups will be formed to continue the discussion, creating reports that will be shared.
