GIA Shares Latest Developments at Hong Kong International Shows

Gem and jewellery professionals are welcome to visit GIA (Gemological Institute of America) at the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show from Feb. 27 to March 3 at AsiaWorld-Expo, and at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, March 1-5 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. GIA will offer laboratory services, free seminars and live demonstrations of new instruments at both shows.

GIA’s Show Service Laboratory will be available at the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show (AsiaWorld-Expo) from Feb. 27 through March 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and March 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The lab will accept colored stones, pearls and diamonds. GIA Identification Reports will be available for ruby, sapphire, emerald and all other gem materials. GIA Identification and Country of Origin Reports will be available for ruby, sapphire, emerald, Paraiba tourmaline and red spinel. GIA Pearl Reports will also be offered. Diamonds up to 9.99 carats may be submitted at the show for report services; returns will only be made at GIA’s Hong Kong laboratory. Show attendees will also have the opportunity to see live demonstrations and order the GIA iD100TM gem testing device. This device uses advanced spectroscopic technology to distinguish natural diamonds from synthetic (HPHT and CVD) diamonds and diamond stimulants in the colorless to near-colorless range, mounted and loose, rough and cut, in sizes starting from 0.9 millimeters in diameter. New Diamond Findings and Developments from the GIA Laboratory

Tom Moses, GIA executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer, and Dr. Wuyi Wang, GIA vice president of research and development, will provide an overview of the latest breakthroughs in diamond research and recent discoveries of natural type IIb diamonds. They will also demonstrate a prototype of the GIA UV Lamp and Viewing Cabinet. This new instrument provides controlled long-wave LED UV illumination for diamond fluorescence observations and includes a visual reference for comparison to GIA descriptions of fluorescence intensity. This device can also be used for testing other gem material.
