GIA Graduate Diamonds Diploma Program Offered in Surat

GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the world’s foremost authority in gemology, will offer its internationally-recognised Graduate Diamonds Diploma program in Surat on December 7, 2017. The eight-week programme gives students the technical expertise needed to identify, grade, buy and sell diamonds with the insight of seasoned professionals. Specialisation in the programme leads to various career opportunities from becoming a diamond grader, buyer, sorter, wholesaler, retailer and more.

“GIA invented the 4Cs (colour, clarity, cut and carat weight) of Diamond Quality and the International Diamond Grading System™ – standards used around the world by the gem and jewellery industry,” said Nirupa Bhatt, Managing Director for GIA India and Middle East. “Backed by gemmological research and experienced instructors, each student receives quality education that helps them further their career or business opportunities.”

Students use professional diamond grading equipment for the purpose of examining a diamond’s quality characteristics to grade and identify diamonds. Using the 4Cs and the International Diamond Grading System™ students will grade D-to-Z diamonds, learn to detect diamonds - synthetics, treatments and stimulants - and recognise when advanced testing is required. Coursework also includes plotting diagrams and determining florescence. Students will receive tweezers, a 10x loupe, a pointer probe, plotting pens, a gem cloth, a table gauge, a crown angle card, a colour grading card, a lab manual and printed course materials.

In addition to classroom lessons, GIA facilitates hands-on learning through regular market visits – such as manufacturing facilities and retail houses – to gain an understanding of day-to-day business. Students have a unique opportunity to experience the journey of a diamond.

The Institute also conducts its Graduate Diamonds programme in New Delhi and Surat. Apart from diamonds, GIA offers courses on coloured stones, pearls, jewellery design and more. The Institute conducts regular corporate seminars on jewellery-related topics, including merchandising, in several cities throughout India and the Middle East.
