A diamond merchant has been duped by a gang of fake brokers in Mumbai, who took a consignment of for rough and polished diamonds from him on the pretext of reselling them and getting the victim a better price.  

The trader, 44-year-old Premal Shah, lodged a complaint at Bandra Kurla Complex police station that the main accused has been tracking and collecting information about his business activities for quite some time. After a thorough understanding of his business, he introduced himself as a diamond broker who can help sell diamonds on behalf of Shah for a better price.

According to the police, while introducing himself, the accused gave references of some brokers who were already known to Shah. The fake broker struck a deal with Shah and took 458.37 carat of diamonds from him, which was to be resold and the money was to be paid to Shah. However, after taking possession of the diamond, the accused left the city and started ignoring his phone calls. On some occasions, the accused also threatened Shah with murder. This led Shah to register a complaint with the police. The police said they believe that the accused is part of an organised crime syndicate, which is operating from Delhi and they are close to busting it.
