VAN CLEEF & ARPELS

A highlight of the sale is an impressive selection of jewels by designer Van Cleef & Arpels. The cover lot is a versatile piece of jewellery which can be worn as a necklace, bracelet with a pendant or brooch. Made from 18ct gold, coral and amethyst the work dates from the 1970s and evokes the glamour of the era (estimate $25,000-35,000, lot 141).

Animals are a strong design element of Van Cleef & Arpels. With life-like features, an 18ct gold, diamond, onyx and emerald brooch is composed as a reclining panther on a branch, the panther completed with an articulated tail (estimate $20,000-30,000, lot 149, pictured). Beware the dragon, with its accented eyes in ruby, completed with its nose and wings accented in brilliant-cut diamonds, this delightful 18ct gold textured brooch, would be well suited to any lapel (estimate $6,000-9,000, lot 152).

ELIZABETH TAYLOR

Elizabeth Taylor was renowned for her impressive jewels and her fascination extended to the House of Taylor Jewelry, where she was once a shareholder and designer. Included in this sale is a pair of 18ct gold, emerald and diamond earrings, where each surmount of chevron motif is accented with collet-set oval cabochon emerald framed pavé-set diamonds (estimate $12,000-18,000, lot 231).

DIAMONDS

Demand has remained strong for diamonds internationally, and the sale features an impressive pair of diamond earrings, each surmount colletset with an old mine-cut diamond, suspending a claw-set old European brilliant-cut and a round brilliant-cut diamond (estimate $220,000- 280,000, lot 195).

Set in platinum and 18ct white gold ring, is a cushion modified brilliant-cut natural fancy yellow diamond framed by a double boarder of pavé-set brilliant-cut near colourless diamonds (estimate $78,000- 98,000, lot 62)
