Diamond exhibition to be held at the Buckingham Palace

On the occasion of the British Queen completing 60 years on the throne, an exhibition of the royal diamonds is being held at the Buckingham Palace in August through September 2012. The Royal Collection display which celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will offer an insight into the 200 year association of the diamonds and precious gems with the British Monarchs.

The jewels to be displayed include; the ‘Girls of Great Britain Tiara’ worn by the Queen at a state banquet in November. It is said to be the Queen’s favourite and is referred to as ‘Granny's tiara’, as it was a wedding gift from her grandmother in 1947. Also to feature is a collet necklace made with 25 large graduated cushion-shaped brilliant-cut diamonds and a central drop-shaped pendant of 22.48 carats along with a pair of earrings which the Queen wore at her coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey in 1953. There will also be historic Queen Victoria's miniature personal crown made with 1,200 diamonds and the monarch's Williamson Brooch embedded with a pink diamond- said to be the finest in existence, which will lend to the historic legacy of the gems and their royal association. The diamond exhibition is part of many exhibitions planned to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen.
