Craftsman from Ganjam brings laurels to the country

Ganjam, renowned for its handcrafted jewellery, holds a repute for impeccable craftsmanship in its work, the world over. Recently, it sent one of its candidate, Mr Bhabesh Chandra Jana, to the World Skills Competition. Mr . Bhabesh Chandra Jana excelled at the national level of the competition and also did the country proud internationally.

Mr Bhabesh Chandra Jana, who represented India in the Craft Olympiad – the World Skills Competition, 2013 at Leipzig, Germany was awarded ‘Medallion for Excellence’ in Jewellery.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Umesh Ganjam, Joint MD, Ganjam, said, “Mr. Bhabesh Chandra Jana was sponsored by Ganjam and trained for nearly one year. Altogether 1100 competitors from 46 various crafts participated from all over the world , out of which 16 competitors were from Jewellery sector. I would like to capture some of the organizations like Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Gem and Jewellery Federation (GJF) and Gen and Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI) and particularly the trainer Mr.Parag Vyas who trained him specially for this purpose and our own Mr. Anupam Karmakar , who has also contributed to this. All this is possible because of the environment created by everyone working in Ganjam , which motivates individuals to attempt such competitions and to my mind that in itself perhaps is the most critical thing.”

Ganjam has grown on its philosophy that upholds craftsmanship and design at the highest echelon.
