The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) is making its pledge towards the CIBJO Education Fund by donating U.S. $10,000 towards jewellery related projects to drive economic development. The concept of the Fund to coordinate and support educational programmes advancing sustainable jewellery industry projects, germinated at CIBJO Executive Committee’s Geneva conference at the United Nations headquarters during November 2007. The decision was taken by CIBJO, World Jewellery Confederation, UN Development Program and the UN's Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), of which CIBJO is a part.

The donation by CJA was announced by CJA Chairman Morris Robinson to Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, the president of CIBJO. Mr. Robinson said the donation not only indicated CJA's support towards CIBJO and its programme, but also of the Canadian jewellery industry's strong belief in the principles of corporate responsibility and in the jewellery industry being a positive force in disadvantaged regions of the world.

Dr. Cavalieri mentioned " CJA is essentially investing in all of our futures, for in the modern business environment our success as industry will depend not only getting our goods to the market, but also in showing that we are contributing positively to the well-being of the regions in which we are active," he said.

CIBJO and the CJA have traditionally enjoyed a close relationship. The CJA hosted the 2006 CIBJO Congress which took place in Vancouver, British Columbia.
