Bentley & Skinner to exhibit works of Andrea Cagnetti

London’s leading and one of its most reputable jewellers - Bentley & Skinner, will host an exhibition dedicated to the works of Andrea Cagnetti, known artistically as Akelo (a name that recalls the Greek god of water), and who is one of the most talented masters of goldsmithing in the world.

The exhibition entitled Akelo: 25 Years will celebrate one quarter of a century of the artist. It is slated between 2nd to the 19th November, 2011. The jewellery house provided a perfect setting for an elite exhibition, owing to its very own repute of being a jeweller to the British Royal Family during the reign of Queen Victoria.

The artist, born in Corchiano in Italy, creates jewellery and golden objects. His work reflects the result of decades of study and experimentation with the greatest ancient goldsmithing techniques and his modern approach. Mary Pixley, the curator of European and American art at the Museum of Art and Archaeology in Columbia, Missouri, who wrote the catalogue and organised the itinerary for the exhibition in the USA: The Voyage of a Contemporary Italian Goldsmith in the Classical World: Golden Treasures by Akelo, said, “Although it has roots in the past, the art of Akelo in fact should not be confused with that of his forebears, from which it differs in many respects. Instead, his timeless creations harmoniously participate in the unending history of man and of civilisation.”

The works of Andrea Cagnetti have been exhibited in many national and international exhibitions. In the last few years, some of his pieces have been acquired by important museums and private collections. In occasion of this exhibition, Bentley & Skinner will publish a richly illustrated catalogue representing another valuable contribution to the appreciation of Akelo’s masterpieces.
